"There is Another Sky" was on view from June 10 through July 1 , 2023 at Bob's Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. This exhibition is entitled “There is another Sky '' after a poem by Emily Dickinson. I love the way that this text expresses dualities, the way that it articulates Dickinson’s abilities to create both real and imaginary spaces filled with plants, sunshine, and color. I used this piece as a point of departure for my body of work because it verbalized many of the things I had been thinking about– passing time, aging and changing, as Emma Baldwin wrote in an analysis of the poem. When I created this exhibition, many people had dealt with the trials and tribulations of global pandemic, economic hardships, and deaths. I hoped to use the show as a source of personal and collective healing, as a space where I could contemplate blurry boundaries between the real world and the imaginary spaces that people construct. I aimed for the space to exist as a physical manifestation of the hypnotic language that Dickinson uses via paintings, sculptures, and installations. In the space, I hoped to paint another sky.
